New lighter and more powerful Portable Rock Drill |

The
new MMPRD is a purpose built lightweight portable drill weighing
only 4.8 kg (10.5 lbs) powered by a quiet, easy starting, powerful, reliable
but lightweight 27cc two-stroke motor driving one of our hard-wearing water
lubricated diamond tipped drill bits. The lightweight motor develops 0.8kW
(1.1 HP) and drives through a 2 speed gearbox giving optimal drilling speeds of 910 or 2710 RPM
. The optimum drilling speed for 1" diamond corers is about 2500 rpm in
medium to soft rocks and about 1000 RPM for very hard rocks. One customer
reports using the same drill bit for 3 major collecting trips (over 1000
cores) and it "still had plenty of life left in it. The MMPRD is
controlled by a convenient finger trigger on the rear handle and there is a
button operated lock to keep the throttle partially open when starting from
cold. The front handle can be left or right hand mounted and the fuel tank
has a large capacity allowing long periods of uninterrupted drilling. |

The MMPRD
comes complete with a pressurised water container
and quick release hose fittings. A suitable combined magnetic-sun compass is
the MMPSC. A full field kit comprising MMPRD, MMPSC, and 4 drill bits
can be supplied complete with portable field box (order code MMPRD+).
Wide selections of suitable diamond core bits up to 4” in diameter are
available at competitive prices. Non-standard core bits can be supplied at
short notice.
